Vesper Chair
Client: Burrow 2022
The Vesper Chair is an adaptation of the Hello Chair originally designed by Isaac Krady. Clabots licensed the design for Burrow because of its unique connection between the seat shell and the back shell. The shape of the shells was modified, new flat pack legs developed, and a derived ottoman and lumbar support added to make the chair a true lounger. A new connection point of the legs to the back was developed allowing for a narrower posture of the legs while making the connection a design focal point to be celebrated. Evan Clabots directed the design of the Vesper Chair for Burrow, working with external designer Isaac Krady, in-house project designer George Coffin and the in-house product development team to bring it to life.
A Simple Tweak
The overall shape of the chair was modified by subtracting an 8 degree wedge shape and from the for and rotating the remaining halves back together. This narrowed the back and gave it a taper, changing its overall posture and presence.
Redesign of the Legs
The legs for the chair were completely redesigned. a set of hinging frames replaced the original 2 piece mirrored side legs. This allowed for flatter packing and simplified the overall form causing the to visually recede and let the shell of the chair become the focal point. The new connection point of the back leg allowed for a narrower posture of the legs and became a design focal point to be celebrated.
Flat Pack
The new folding legs for both the chair and ottoman allow both to flat pack thinner and reduce shipping size.
